Wharf

Non-bearded, high yielding, soft red winter wheat.

Wharf is a very short variety, medium season maturity, with excellent yield and good standability.

It had the highest two-year average in the 2022 MSU red wheat trials.

Red Dragon

Red Dragon is a non-bearded, high yielding, soft red winter wheat.

Good lodging resistance and is resistant to strip rust and wheat spindle streak mosaic virus.

In the 2017 Michigan State University Wheat variety Trails, Red Dragon yielded 85.8 bc/ac.

Chaff and straw color is white and is recommended as livestock bedding material due to its lack of beards. Three year average plant height is 39.1″.

Widely Adapted to Michigan soils and climate with an average maturing date.

Sunburst

Sunburst is a non-bearded, high yielding, soft red winter wheat developed by an Ohio breeding program – Sunbeam Extract.

Good lodging resistance (think short straw) and is resistant to strip rust and wheat spindle streak mosaic virus.

In the 2017 Michigan State University Wheat Variety Trails, Sunburst has a 5 county average yield of 93.6 bu/ac.

Sunburst chaff and straw color is white.

Sunburst is widely adapted to Michigan soils and climate with an average maturing date.

Whale

Whale is a new non-bearded, white chaffed soft red winter wheat line.

Originated from an Indiana breeding program and has adapted well to Michigan.

Whale is resistant to powdery mildew, septoria leaf blotch, leaf rust and stripe rust.

Late season variety with “good” winter hardiness and lodging resistance.

Whale yielded 92.5 by/ac in the 2017 MSU multi-county wheat yield trails and has a 3 year average of 101.1 by/ac.

White Wheat


AC Mountain

AC Mountain is non-bearded soft white winter wheat developed at the Agriculture Canada Research Station in Ontario. Ac Mountain is a high yielding variety with good lodging resistance and moderate resistance to barley yellow dwarf virus.

In the 2016 Michigan State University Wheat Variety Trails, Mc Mountain has a 5 county average yield of 113.0 by/ac.

Mc Mountain chaff and straw color is white and makes excellent livestock bedding material.

Mac Mountain is widely adapted to Michigan soils and climate with an average maturing date.

Just a thought… use a 10.5 ounce rate of Palisade on this variety in the spring when you put on your herbicide and fungicide, Your probability of lodging is greatly reduced.

Jupiter

Jupiter is a non-bearded, height yielding, soft white winter wheat developed by Michigan State University.

Jupiter is the second height yielding white wheat variety tested in the 2-16 MSU yield trails with a 5 county average of 119.9 bu/ac.

Good lodging resistance and is resistant to strip rust and wheat spindle streak mosaic virus.

Jupiter chaff and straw color is bronze.

Widely adapted to Michigan soils and climate with a late maturing date abut three days after AC Mountain.

Whitetail

Whitetail is a new awnless white chaffed high yielding soft white winter wheat variety developed at Michigan State University.

Whitetail exhibits a stable and high level of performance, broad adaptation, and resistance/tolerance to many plant diseases.

Whitetail has lower DON levels that other commercially available soft white winter wheat varieties.

Whitetail will respond well to fungicide management to control stripe rust and spot pathogens.
